This week I was creating some pom poms made out of yarn, that can be used to decorate your parties without creating trash because they can be reused many times. The yarn is very easy to use and allows you to manipulate it in many ways to get different shapes and sizes.

Not only yarn is cheap and easy to handle but it creates very beautiful fluffy pom poms.

I tried 3 different ways to do these yarn pom poms which I will show you here, each way is good for different type of pom poms. The method to use depends on which pom pom size you want to create.

Method 1: Carton Ring

To create big pom poms of a diameter of 30 cm you can use this method.

Materials:
– 2 sheets of thick carton of around 30 x 30 cm
– 2 balls of yarn of the color of your choice
– 1 pair of scissors

Instructions:
1. On each carton cut 1 thick ring of around 10 cm wide leaving a hole in the middle of 10 cm diameter.
2. Place on ring on top of the other and start looping the yarn around both rings as seen on the picture below.
3. Loop the yarn until there is no more space on the middle hole
4. Place the scissors in between the two rings of carton and cut the yarn around the ring.
5. Take a long piece of yarn and draw it between the two carton rings and tie a knot firmly in between the two rings
6. Cut the carton rings so the ball can come out
7. Snip the yarn with scissors until the ball is round and fluffy.

Method 2: Furniture Legs

This method works great on medium size pom poms of 15 cm.

Materials:
– 1 table or chair with at least 2 legs
– 1 ball of yarn of the color of your choice
– 1 pair of scissors

Instructions:
1. Place the table or chair with two legs facing yourself.
2. Do a first knot with the yarn on the left leg and start looping it from one leg to the other.
3. Continue looping it until the yarn is finished.
4. Cut small pieces of yarn of around 10 cm and use them to make knots wherever you want your pom poms to be, I would recommend every 20 cm.
5. Cut the yarn in pieces leaving the knots in the middle.
6. Snip the yarn with scissors until the balls are round and fluffy.

Method 3: The fork

This method is ideal for small pom poms of 5 cm.

Materials:
– 1 metal/silver fork
– 1 ball of yarn of the color of your choice
– 1 pair of scissors

Instructions:
1. Take the fork in your hand and the yarn on the other hand.
2. Start looping the yarn around the fork from the left side to the right side.
3. Loop the yarn until the fork is fully covered.
4. Take a small piece of yarn of around 10 cm and use it to make a knot on the yarn in the fork, from top to bottom.
5. Cut the yarn on the left and right side with the scissors
6. Snip the yarn with scissors until the balls are round and fluffy.
