DIY: Minions cupcakes

Minions cupcakes

For the 5th Birthday party of Marwin, the theme chosen was Minions from he movie of Despicable me. I find this theme very fun for kids, as the minions are very funny characters and you can do so many creative baking ideas with this theme.

In this post I would like to share with you the steps to do some Minions cupcakes. I hope you enjoy them.

Step 1: Bake some cupcakes with the flavour of your choice. I made banana cupcakes and used the banana cake recipe shared on my previous post here.

Step 2: Get fondant in blue, yellow, white, black and grey. Make sure you get the tones of the real minions, if you cannot find those tones in the store, such as in my case, you can add food color to the fondant to match the desired tones. I recommend to use food color in paste or gel and not liquid. I got a very good one at Wilton, you can find it here.

Step 3: Collect some cookie cutters or anything in a circle shape of the size of the cupcakes and start cutting some circles in blue and yellow. Mix half a yellow circle with half a blue circle as seen below to create the body of the minions.

Step 4: Use the tap of a bottle or anything in a small circle size to cut white fondant circles to create the eyes of the minions. Cut white sticks to create the name tags on the uniforms of the minions.

Step 5: With the same bottle tap cut grew circles and with a smaller tap or a ring cut an even smaller circle in the middle of the first one. You want to create a ring to do the glasses of the minions.Minions cupcakes 8 Minions cupcakes 9

Step 6: Cut black sticks on the black fondant to do the side of the glasses of the minons and place them under the white and grey circles.Minions cupcakes 10 Minions cupcakes 11 Minions cupcakes 12

Step 7: Finally cut very small circles to do the pupils of the eyes of the minions and the mouth. You can choose to cut the mouths in different forms to create different expressions on each cupcake.Minions cupcakes 13

Step 8: Prepare some ice cream frosting (you can find the recipe on my previous post here) and place it on top of the cupcakes.Minions cupcakes 14

Step 9: Place each fondant minion on the top of the frosting and press it so it gets flat. Enjoy the cupcakes!

These are so cute! I’ve made them once and used a half of a twinkie to decorate with the eyes and face, then made the frosting on top of the cupcake blue. Your fondant idea is fabulous. I look forward to checking out your blog regularly.
